So what's the verdict on this show? Also, what's with the woke fantasy epidemic on tv? The Witcher, The Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, House of the Dragon, and so on.

The woke thing is replacing white characters for blacks (who btw don't even fit the aesthetic) and offering bullshit reasoning when we all know the real reason.

Some was good, some was bad. Mediocre show not deserving to be picked up for another season.

Sandman is about a 6 or 7 /10 its perfectly watchable and a more than decent adaptation of the source material.

I hope it's not renewed for a 2nd season. He's so fucking insufferable and obnoxious.

The reason might be that the skin color is not THAT important for the character and that a black actor just fit overall with the production. It's obviously 90% woke bullshit but like in the case of HotD where corlys in now a black character it doesn't really bother me, seems like a great fit anyway.

If it's not important, why change it?

Because as I said, might have been the best fit for the production with the pool of actors they had to go by. Obviously they probably have a quota they have to meet but if it doesn't shatter my suspense of disbelief I don't really have a problem with it.
