Is there a particular style of aesthetic you really enjoy?
Do you have a set of colors, aspect ratios, lighting or even editing that really activates your neurons?
For me the 90s films of Wong Kar Wai and Oliver Stone are probably my favorite film aesthetic
But I really enjoy films shot in very widescreen with large vistas as well

I like the real life aspect ratio. It involves being outside and living my own life instead of watching everyone else's like a vicarious failure
Eat my mushroom, nerd
For me, it's 16:9 so I have no black bars on my TV and a nice warm color palette.
why is it that a lot of movies and games have gone for a much colder color temperature over the past nine years or so
demoralization
Give me reality within the confines of your universe. That is atmosphere and compelling purpose.
50s and 60s technicolor movies, from before the eastman crap
>Cannes Cut
Kill Bill Cannes Cut when?
they all have their upsides if used judiciously but my favorite is probably wide-angle shots in 4:3. you get a large vista with lots of headroom which is the best of both worlds.
Three Strip Technicolor til 53.
Eh this was particularly bad in the middle of the 2010s but it’s been heading back the other direction for a while now
I dunno I think they've just thrown in a lot of dorito filter and purple neon but that's not exactly what I'm talking about compared to like "warmth"
And even then it's still only a small chunk of films
Japanese films from the '60s are my favorite aesthetic
Sword of Doom is an excellent and well shot film if you haven't seen it
I love the style of shitty low quality 2000s Youtube video cam corders.

I've seen it of course
this shit
Anamorphic 2.39:1, but only if it's shot with true anamorphic lenses, not a project shot at 1.78:1 on spherical lenses and then cropped. Remember, kiddes, that true anamorphic lenses capture such a wide angle of view because the lenses are twice as wide horizontally as they are vertically. A 50mm lens is capturing 50mm vertically and about 25mm horizontally. It truly is a thing of beauty. And background elements in the scene are stretched vertically, making your in-focus foreground subjects pop off the screen more. True anamorphic is the shit.
