why does the dialogue feel so flat? it feels like there is no subtlety or anything "between the lines" to be picked up on. Almost every line of dialogue is the character saying what they feel/think explicitly, even when they have ulterior motives or reason to not actually say what they are thinking of feeling
Take the scene where corlys gets angry at the king choosing alicent over his daughter as an example, the way he just snaps and spells out his frustration or disappointment in front of everyone and then goes on to plot behind the crown's back with daemon just doesn't make for good character or writing at all, and you could apply this to almost 90% of the dialogue
I didn't read the book but from what I understand this is all filler prologue that is only for the show so they don't have fat george's writing but it's still very disappointing
