because in the books shes an adult in her 20s (she also wasn't friends with Rhaenyra who is like 5 or 10 years younger than her) and the king is in his late 30s. But the really it is because the Hightowers are in league with the Maesters of Oldtown and wanted the king to wed her. In the books its hinted that the Maesters wanted to bring down the Targs because they hate dragons and magic, and the Hightowers are from Oldtown, where the Maesters are headquarter and are the main patrons of the Citadel
