>Tomoaki Hamatsu was challenged to stay alone, unclothed, in an apartment for Susunu! Denpa Shōnen (January 1998 – March 2002), a Japanese reality-television show, after winning a lottery for a "show business related job". He was challenged to enter mail-in sweepstakes until he won ¥1 million (about US$10,000) in total. He started with nothing (including no clothes), was cut off from outside communication and broadcasting, and had nothing to keep him company except the magazines he combed through for sweepstakes entry forms. After spending 335 days to reach his target, he set the Guinness world record for the "longest time survived on competition winnings"
>Tomoaki Hamatsu believed that he was being recorded and the show would be re-broadcast later once the footage had been gathered. In reality, the experiment was being livestreamed, with footage compiled and re-aired each week, complete with sound effects present at frequent intervals, using new tech to have 24/7 television to show him live using a joystick to cover up his genitals
>After being informed of his victory, he was given back his clothes and blindfolded and taken to a surprise location. Tomoaki Hamatsu happily went along believing he was going to get a special prize for his year of hard work. After they removed his blindfold, he found himself in South Korea. He was given a day at an amusement park, where he was able to enjoy strange food, and ride on the park's multiple attractions. However, after finishing, he was taken to another apartment. He was once again asked to take off his clothes and challenged to enter sweepstakes, this time to win enough money to afford a flight with Japan Airlines to return home. However, When Tomoaki Hamatsu quickly met this goal after several weeks of entering competitions, it was revised multiple times, first to afford a ticket in business class, then first class; these goals were also met in a matter of weeks. When he had won enough to return to Japan he was blindfolded, clothed and taken to another apartment in Japan.

Sounds like Saw if it was trolling instead of killing

>When he had won enough to return to Japan he was blindfolded, clothed and taken to another apartment in Japan. lmao
Carter Lopez
Imagine getting tricked into slavery
Jose Ward
Why are Japanese people so soulless?
Christian Gutierrez
wait is there a trick to winning sweepstakes does he send like a thousand letters
Jaxson Watson
So, did they give him the money or no? He could've sued and completely destroy them in US, sometimes the US justice system isn't so bad.
Brandon Phillips
I read about this the other day, how was he cool with constantly getting baited and being told he'd be freed? He seems like he'd be able to withstand torture at a CIA blacksite with ease, what's his secret?
Bentley Stewart
$10,000 USD is nothing if your full time job for a year was applying to sweepstakes
Jason Bell
he won like 8 000 usd while the producers made millions, they gave him an "apology" privately but publicly they said it was completely justified and their vision made for a great game show. and yes in the US he could've easily sued them to bankruptcy
>how was he cool with constantly getting baited and being told he'd be freed? it's mostly sunk cost and being conditioned into this lifestyle, when they trapped him in Korea and told him he has to make enough money for a plane ticket they told him he could just quit and get a ride back home but he wouldn't get any of the winnings from the previous 11 months he spent on the show. They had him by the balls, and dude seems like an overall pushover type nice guy
Ayden Brooks
>what's his secret? He's Japanese. The thing about eastern societal cultural is, there's an hierarchy and you're told to shut up and not complain. My parents are overworked, and don't even get paid for overtime, they happily do it, because it is the right thing to do. They do complain to me though.
Bentley Edwards
he enjoyed it and could've left any moment he wanted. he knew he was signing up for a challenge
Parker Nelson
He was a japanese comedian, doing that would forever blacklist him from any variety show forever.
Elijah Edwards
He was allowed to leave essentially at any time. He kept going for the challenge and the prestige.
Carter Hernandez
Based, wish they made shows like this again
Carson Kelly
His "prize" was a chance to be on TV. The things he won in the sweepstakes were just part of the game. He did turn it into a successful thing, even if it was in a different field than he had wanted. They published his journal that they kept taking from him and it became a best seller and he ended up becoming a dramatic stage actor instead of becoming a comedian like he wanted. He REALLY wanted to become a pro-comedian and do variety shows. This was his big break, so he thought.
There's a torrent over on /t/ of the final collected version. >Denpa Shonen Nasubi 1998 電波少年 なすび (subbed): >nyaa.si/view/812319

>sometimes the US justice system isn't so bad. No, being able to sue for something you could have just walked away from is fucking retarded, burger.
Ryder Richardson
>He was allowed to leave essentially at any time That's like saying, you're allowed to quit your job at anytime. It is a psychological trap. They knew what they were doing.
Dominic James
>OMG PENGUINZ0 MADE A VIDEO ABOUT IT NOW I HAVE TO DISCOOOOOS IT AHHH IM DISCOOOOSING
Great and underrated channel for mini-documentaries on a wide variety of weird topics, BTW.
Ian James
That's what this is about? Another fucking zoomtuber? Aj right... I share this board with 16y old and most of them werent even born when this aired
Isaac Perry
>That's like saying, you're allowed to quit your job at anytime. user, I...
David Roberts
Dude epic doodoo feces joke XD he so funny
Noah Lewis
Dumbass, he was being livestrwamed without his consent. Also, they did not give him the money immediately after he had won but changed the comtract several times. They were also several health codes and other things that were violated. Even Japam considered it torture, it is a slamdunk case in US.
Josiah Lee
>It is a psychological trap. You know what's interesting about "psychological traps"? They only work on people who let them work on them. If you're an adult and not mentally-handicapped, then you can't really use that as an excuse. You're still in control of your actions and what you chose to do/not do.
Zachary Collins
>Dumbass, he was being livestrwamed without his consent Nigger not only did he know about the cameras but he knew he was signing up for a TV SHOW.
Jayden Hughes
He could leave when ever he wanted, I don't see what all the fuss is about. No he wasn't trapped.
Brandon Lopez
Yep, they dont make them like that anymore. Everything is too tame now.
My dude he signed a contract day one explicitly giving consent
He would talk to and perform in front of the cameras every day
Robert Morgan
>Nigger not only did he know about the cameras but he knew he was signing up for a TV SHOW. And that doesn't equal livestreaming, dipshit. Agreeing to be in a room with a gun doesn't mean you agree to being shot.
