I watched the first japanese one and I did like it quite a bit. I liked how creepy and eerie it could be while also barley having Sadako in it at all.
What kind of hampered my opinion was the ending. The twist at the end pretty much rendered the entire journey the main characters went on to be completely pointless, I wasn't a fan of that.
