>I think I agree with Ebert that a lot of fans are fans of fandom itself. But even so, mastering the Star Wars or Star Trek universes or whatever still remains better pastimes than most other hobbies. I don't think that extreme fandom may serve as a security blanket for the socially inept, who use its extreme structure as a substitute for social skills. Yes, my fannish obsession is my beard and yes, I absolutely do know all the trivia about my cubbyhole of pop culture. But to say "it saves me from having to know anything about anything else"? Nonsense.
Thoughts?
MauLer DEBUNKS fanboyism
Sorry buddy, I just rebunked your debunk
The Virgin nitpicker
The Chad consoomer
Honest question: if my man had touched a pussy, would he give a fuck about any of this?
Is this the fag that made a 14 hour video on ds2 and analyzes capeshit for hours each?
Seems like he should be the last to talk but yeah if a sane person with a life said that It would be right
Is it monkey pox?
>"I HATE ALL THESE GARBAGE MOVIES
>"Huh Avengers 8? YES THIS IS SO EPIC GO WATCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
He's controlled opposition and an MCU shill
Here's what Ebert said, btw
>A lot of fans are basically fans of fandom itself. It's all about them. They have mastered the Star Wars or Star Trek universes or whatever, but their objects of veneration are useful mainly as a backdrop to their own devotion. Anyone who would camp out in a tent on the sidewalk for weeks in order to be first in line for a movie is more into camping on the sidewalk than movies. Extreme fandom may serve as a security blanket for the socially inept, who use its extreme structure as a substitute for social skills. If you are Luke Skywalker and she is Princess Leia, you already know what to say to each other, which is so much safer than having to ad lib it. Your fannish obsession is your beard. If you know absolutely all the trivia about your cubbyhole of pop culture, it saves you from having to know anything about anything else. That's why it's excruciatingly boring to talk to such people: They're always asking you questions they know the answer to.
He was dumb, people became fans of Star Wars because it used to be good. And most people that become fanboys obviously do it to get friends
yeah, Disney pays him to talk about hating their movies for 8 hours because it keeps the focus on them.
meanwhile, he almost never covers actually good lower-budget releases.
this basically reads as anti-autistic hate speech now. he's literally trying to gatekeep what people are allowed to talk to their girlfriends about lol.
literally just nitpicks and doesn’t understand anything about the language of cinema
he's sought of right
>But even so, mastering the Star Wars or Star Trek universes or whatever still remains better pastimes than most other hobbies.
Peak self-delusion.
Close, but it’s really that culture and society have degraded and people have found lesser substitutes in such things as fandoms. We do t have real community or beliefs or culture or religion… but for the price of admission and a hotel room for the weekend, we can pretend to have those things several times a year at D23 or SDCC or whatever
Sort of right?
no
mauler looks like THAT??
I mean were you expecting anything else? I enjoyed listening to him bitch about TLJ but nobody doing multiple hour long star wars video essays is going to look like a model.
>doesn't know the difference between a fact and an opinion
Who is this faggot? Is he seriously this onions or is he just acting
That honestly speaks of insecurity, which does imply that he at least has some self awareness of his limitations.
It’s harder to praise something than shit on it and still be entertaining, but it also leaves them open to accusations of double standards if the person isn’t capable of properly explaining and distinguishing their point. Somewhat ironic for someone who spends hours on single topics.
There’s also the problem that positive reviews get less views than negative ones, especially for niche content, but most people counter that by having it on a separate channel that won’t get them fucked by the algorithm.
He is correct about the definitions of objective and subjective, but he doesn't know how to look outside of himself
