He had the camera on during the attack, probably turned it on to film the encounter out of reflex. But from what I recall the lenscap was still on or something, so it's audio only.

Because its his fault. Towards the end of autumn right before Winter hibernation Bears who havent eaten enough to last the winter get desperate and will start eating anything they can get. He was dumb enough to stay out in this area longer than he should have and a hungry bear decided him and his gf would be food.
