Both are equally boring. Vampires are fun because they are very human but still obviously monstrous. Make them just inhuman monsters and they basically just become undead demons. Make then angsty teenagers and they they lose any sense of menace.
The key to good vampires is to really go into what it would be like to live that long at the expense of human lives. The kind of mentality it would cause you to develop. The best vampires are the once that do inhuman monstrous things but always have a excuse and their own strange morale code.
