To answer your question, it was when Amazon showed that the best "Tolkien Scholars" they could find had never actually read the books.
Understandably, fans of the books will take what they can get from this shit show tokenist trash, which is dunking on the fucking retards who have the nerve to take someone else's story, change the morals and themes, and call the audience racist for not liking it.

They would've called Tolkien a Nazi regardless of if he liked Hitler. He didn't like Hitler or national socialism as an ideology at all, and he was in fact somewhat philosemitic. That does not mean he wasn't far right - he was a die hard trad cath who supported right wing very right wing causes and his writing is filled with racist connotations. Unfortunately for left shits Tolkien was also an amazing scholar and philologist who had an amazing understanding of the nature of language and wrote one of the most important works of fiction in the 20th century - so they have to cope and seethe about it
