The film isn’t even subtle about any of this. I do like it, especially for unapologetically showing the ruthlessness of everyone involved in the drug war and shitting on the self-absorbed middle class druggies that largely sustain the entire shitshow.
The problem is that most spectators relate to one of the groups portrayed while identifying those they don’t like with one/both of the others, meaning they see the movie as another field of political dispute instead of “shit’s fucked in Rio: the movie”.
Mediocre movie, but a great way to show how the cop militias took control of the city irl.

some of the main suspects in the militia investigation were from PSDB (centrist social democrat party, at the time main rival of the socialist left)
nowadays this has been memory holed, in favor of painting Bolsonaro as the head of the militias
and the left is forming a coalition with this party against the right
