Why did Xena succeed when other "girl power" shows/characters failed?
Xena: Warrior Princess

It's soft core lesbian porn and extremely comfy.
Guys who liked male action heroes had Hercules that they could enjoy at the same time so there was something for everyone
If it existed in a vacuum it wouldn't have been as popular
Imagine being the dude that went to bed to young Lucy Lawless every night
1. Sincerity. While it is a VERY ironic show, they never (rarely) poke fun at the concept/world/drama.
2. Anti-Hollywood. Xena was filmed in New Zealand using New Zealand cast and crew. Many of this crew went on to work in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
3. Lucy Lawless is actually sexy/powerful instead of a pretty wimpy girl pretending to be powerful (supergirl, walking dead. Star Wars) or a powerful girl pretending to be sexy (Gina Carano)
More like imagine being the producer of Xena that managed to marry his lead actress.
Because Xena didn't try to emasculate men in order to elevate the heroine. She was allowed to be cool without having to put down others.
Oh well, it's always been like this in entertainment industries anyway, right?
>JOXER THE MIGHTY WILL ALWAYS HAVE VIRGINITY
Xena would always throw in a weak man for a joke every once in a while, but they also had scores of dumb women as a joke too. It was pre-9/11 television and therefore will never be recaptured
was it successfull?
it ran for 6 seasons so I would say yes
Because it followed in Heavy Metal's footsteps
Xena had a lesbian vibe
Hercules had a fag vibe
>Those thighs
Yeah, definitely a kiwi girl
>Xena had a lesbian vibe
Yeah
>Hercules had a fag vibe
No
Aren't kiwis just budget australians who are in turn descendants of british outlaws?
Late 90s/early 2000s adventure shows with cool female leads were my childhood
anyone still have her tape?
>Ctrl-f, Buffy
Nobody?
Buffy became literal "girl power" by the last season
She was sexy and not a goody two shoes with no flaws.
The joss whedon talking at 100mph, and that most episodes are exactly the same, makes it hard to watch now. Was certainly better as a weekly show back then.
