I don't think the show is any reason to change the plot of the upcoming books
S8 was hated mostly because of how rushed it was, so it didn't make any sense in the context of the show
you can take the same exact plot points and if you set them up properly they would work

Didn't he also say that he would have a book done by the time of some con and that if he failed on that, you may lock him up until he does finish a book? His promises don't hold much water.

People say GRRM’s biggest writing mistake in the split book 4 of book 5 was having Daenerys fuck around in Mereen but I disagree. That storyline had thematic and narrative value. It’s the Dorne plot that should’ve been cut and honestly, as interesting as Euron is, him being introduced as a big bad was a bit late in the game
