The problem is that fans seem to think there was a big age gap between Barbara and Bruce.
Bruce was only 7 years older than Barbara. When she was in her early 20s, Bruce was in his late 20s.
Yet fans seem to think Bruce is this strange "father figure" that is 20 years older than his sidekicks. Which is just false. He was only somewhat older than his sidekicks.
The reason Bruce looks so old in Batman Beyond is because Bruce treats his body like shit. He suffered so many injuries and never let himself properly heal or rest. He doesn't even let himself get enough sleep. Literally Bruce getting maybe 3 to 4 hours of rest before going back out as Batman.
Alfred even scolded Bruce and told him to stop and slow down. That his body needed proper rest or he would suffer.
But Bruce wouldn't listen and ran his body into the ground until he had a heart attack. And had to quit being Batman.
