They didn't lose shit. There was many competing interests there but the military itself was just trying to grow a stable, strong democratic country that's favourable to the US. The US was only policing it and building it up. It didn't work because people in that region don't know how to do that. They immediately gave up, ran away or switched sides. Other interests are ofc arms dealers, and specific targets like getting rid of certain policy and certain individuals there.
