I lived in Nagoya and D.C.
The biggest difference is how safe it feels and how much better the public transportation is.
In DC they was always hobos on the train attacking you. Here you don't get bothered maybe unless you are a girl and get molested

somehow, people from LA are more bug-person-esque than people from Tokyo
