Q: Are movies like The Fabulous Baron Munchausen and Loving Vincent animation?
A: Yes, in this case some human actors are rotoscoped into animated/painted backgrounds, or digital art is layered on the human actors.

How was Disney capable of making something this soulful in the 2010's?

Corpse Bride is one of my all time fav. Stop motion dark fantasy - why not?

Tim Burton is a genius. I really fucking love Corpse Bride. It's a one of a kind gem. And the stop motion is so crazy smooth it looks like 3D CGI. I wonder from time to time where are the dolls they used for the Nightmare before Christmas and Corpse Bride are stored. Does Tim Burton have them?

Imagine being Henry Selick and forever live being cucked by Tim Burton, to the point most fans of your work don’t even know you exist.

He wasn't involved in Corpse Bride. He worked on Coralline and Nightmare Before Christmas instead.

Yeah. I was just thinking about the ton of people I know who love Nightmare Before don’t even know the guy who directed it and think it’s all Burton’s work.

To be fair while I love Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas is meeh at best. Frankenweenie was much better, as a parod and homage to classic Frankenstein movies from 1930s . Maybe that's because I prefer neo-gothic than commercialization of Halloween.

i watched a behind the scenes thing about disney and it takes a single artist months to finish animating a single scene. they do like 20-30, a minute max of animation on a movie. crazy if you think about it.

it was okay for white people to tell a story about white people doing good and wholesome things

>they do like 20-30, a minute max of animation on a movie. crazy if you think about it.
At this point they are more machine than artist. How much of yourself is in 20 second of animation from a 90+ minutes movie? Sooner or latter most of what they do will be automatized and the dozen or so artists left will be majorly responsible for directing, supervising and correcting the result.
