european cinema tradition is quite alien to american cinema, they're quite unintelligible to each other save exceptions
Europeans are focused on making Art Cinema with heavy doses of symbolism and, very often nudity (non-sexual)
America on the other hand makes commercial cinema with lots of graphical and special effects for pure and quick entertainment, it's very direct and succinct in its message
of course, there are many exceptions to both. You can find some old and new american jewels here and there
