What queer leanings? What would they be basing this on? Tolkien was extremely obsessive about detailing relationships, physical appearances, family trees, histories. Overt homosexuals just weren't a thing in LotR, neither were black Noldorim. People of the same sex platonically loving each other does not make them gay.
