The DR has a strong tourist economy.
There is a lot of economic activity there in connection to that.
Comparatively the Macedonians are more stagnant. There isn't a lot of economic dynamism, but at the same time the overall economic activity isn't buoyed by an industry that scarcely spreads its wealth like tourism.
Economic activity and money changing hands is what determines GDP, not the wealth of the average person or quality of life.
You're also not posting the 1800s level mountain villages that the Macedonian countryside has either.

every time i look at a chart like this, i feel like asia is bleak this is because south korea or japan always stand out in the asian region on these charts but as you can see in real life here, we live our lives seldom realizing that we are wealthier than other asian countries

well i don't know if i was just talking about portion of food or the size of the house anyway, social life and family life in south korea and japan are quite dry and economical (?)
we have a much colder and heavy social climate than developing countries in asia such as vietnam, thailand or china and this heavy atmosphere raises our suicide rate
