Most of them aren't even trying. My state of 25 million people does almost as much as the remaining 1375 million. We would actually be fairly decent if we were a seperate country. Imagine how much worse the stats would be for the rest of them

Russians are fairly poor, and they do well. Same with Kenya in track sports. Plus China is still at around 10k gdp per capita, and keeps pace with the rest (granted that's boosted by government efforts, but still).

Because Russian, Chinese have since the days of cold war taken sports very seriously. On the other hand in India sports is seen as something only kids are supposed to do for fun. Also Kenya is elite and track and field but they're also lacking in other sports, we were ahead of them in the medal table in last commonwealth games even after losing shooting and archery which used to be our main games.
