As a huge fan of the first two films, I found some things to like about 3 (and even 4), but I'd only ever recommend the first two.
3 had some pretty cool concepts though and I kind of enjoyed the oppressive bleakness. Too bad about the CGI'd alien, though...

Alien, Aliens, and arguably Prometheus are the good ones.
Alien 3 is boring and skippable, Resurrection is over the top bad but might be entertaining if you watch it ironically, under the influence of some substances.
Alien Covenant is mostly garbage and worth watching only if you find you REALLY like Prometheus
