the irony is that even though ross is a creep, david schwimmer was a driving progressive force behind the scenes. he was raised by two moms, and it was only due to his insistence that carol and susan were recurring characters instead of a one-off joke. this meant friends was one of the first sitcoms to show a same sex wedding. schwimmer also insisted on more of his romantic partners being non-white to try and bring in more diversity.
honestly friends was pretty damn progressive for being a mainstream 90's show.
