King Arthur's legend isn't historical. It's meant to embody chivalry and those armors are the pinnacle of chivalry.

Arthur may have existed in history, it has never been proven. He definitely exists in myth, and the movie is about the myth.

I love in that movie how the knights' suits of armor were all dull iron until Launcelot showed up on the scene
