There's nothing wrong with soldier boys character this season. He was always ambiguously dubious. He's not dean winchester with powers. Butcher feeling for Huighie has already been established like a 100 times and we know most of the backstory for him so that seemed kinda pointless, well not pointless, I'm guessing it was mostly for Butcher to reaffirm how he thinks of Hughie which is why he's just gonna go for broke and take on homelander.
