Go have a really careful look at Mortal Kombat Annihilation. Then, tell us what we could have done better and what you'd like to see in future movies and TV shows. But really, really look at it. For example, did you notice that we incorporated Sonya's 'kiss of death' fatality while trying to give it a rational explanation? We did that with other special moves, did you notice that? Do you like it? Or did you get that every time Jade is bad, her hair and make-up are different. There are other costume changes in the movie too. Did they make an impression on you? Good or bad? And what about Rayden? You all wanted to see him fight in this movie and he does, a couple of times in fact. We tried to make it a different kind of fight. It's intentional what happens. What do you think? He even has a new look, he's sleeker, cooler, and he sports a buzz cut. Do you like it? Did you notice Sindel's sonic blast? It destroyed a whole canyon of ancient temples. Did you get this? How about Nightwolf's animality or the green glow on his ax. Did you see the Shadow Priests in Kahn's fortress? Did you know that the girl who plays Mileena is an Olympic Gold medalist in Tae Kwon Doe? That's so the mudfight will be exciting and realistic. Was it for you? If you look closely you'll see that we tried to take things from the game and all the other Mortal Kombat productions to the next level. There are tons of special moves, martial arts and special effects, in the movie. What do you think about them - give us the details, be specific.

Yes, they added a lot of cool stuff, but you are supposed to BUILD upon the last movie, not completely shit on it.

It's pretty cool that even as far back as that movie, they were already willing to throw vision into the garbage in order to create a test-audience calibrated travesty which is most media and entertainment these days.

The Wizard of Oz had ten movie adaptions before the classic one we all know and love.

Its good to know that Hollywood hasn't changed in the slightest when it comes to remaking and rebooting everything.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation had two primary issues:
>Paul W.S. Anderson smelled trouble and left to go make Event Horizon. The director of photography on the first film had to step up and be director. Anderson was so emotionally scarred by the fallout of this shit movie that he pledged to stick around for all the Resident Evil sequels.
>The studio showed a workprint to test audiences, and the film tested well. So in a stroke of genius the studio said, "Well... why do more work on the movie? It's good enough to release. We'll make less profits if we keep working on it."
That's why the movie is both terrible, and has placeholder VFX.

This. And it's surprisingly common for multiple movie or TV adaptations of something to be made before the version that "sticks". Matt Damon's Bourne wasn't the first version of Bourne, for example.

Still, I wonder about the long term cultural legacy of the first Mortal Kombat movie. The new 2021 movie is pretty well liked, but there is a lingering "the 1995 one had more soul" sentiment.

the cinematography took a huge step down with annihilation. The first MK movie has some really stylish shots for a video game movie

I dont know if its an excess of pop culture pumping our brains or the movie just being shit, but the fact is that it was lost in a flood of mediocre releases.
