the median age in the UK is 40. assume that everyone over 40 votes tory and everyone below votes lab/lib
assuming a normal distribution that means
everyone from 40 to 120 years old can vote
but only people from 18 to 39 can vote, so by default the young are a smaller cohort
now actually factor in the fact that the UK's population is ageging so there is a skew on the older side and that young people's minority cohort barely even turns up to vote. So fptp elections are a foregone conclusion in most places
