It's not about realism, it's about conveying feelings through design and industry standard, and Disney inspiration.
The anime style is just meant to convey cuteness through design by emulating toddler proportions ( And simplification too ).
It's the same reason why Mr.Incredible have a really small lower body and gigantic arms, it's meant to convey through simple proportions that he is heroic and strong.
