Because necessary improvements weren't built under Obama. Chris Christie, a Republican, was elected as New Jersey's Governor where he promptly killed the new Amtrak tunnels, creating a huge chokepoint within NYC's transit network. Nothing was done about this, things only got worse, and Trump didn't help after becoming President. All around stupid and which made Republicans look like utter troglodytes expecting chumps to tolerate LaGuardia and Newark like we wanna use them. Cuomo was planning pic rel when he was booted which the state's Dems are now committing to.
There's larger problems though. Remember, NYC abandoned America's biggest tunnel project when they went bankrupt in the seventies. The East Side Access tunnels sat abandoned for thirty years until the state could afford to finish them under Obama. Once they are complete, a new connection between Grand Central Terminal and NY Penn will be built - but this first requires two new tunnels from New Jersey. See the problem?

Fuck this guy. New Hampshire has a .massive problem with rich assholes living here but working in Boston and driving our housing prices up insanely high. Commuting times is the only thing stopping our whole state from becoming a bedroom community. High-speed trains would completely destroy the way of life for our entire state.
