Based. I'll watch it live. August 29th 14:33 local time, already in my calendar.

if you have a VR headset, you can watch the launch live in 360 degrees as well

doesnt china have rovers on the moon right now? or do you mean NASA specifically?

Artemis will bring a capsule that will bring humans back to the moon into its orbit, something that hasn't been done since Apollo. It will be a first test launch so no humans for now, all automated.

i'm glad nasa are back to proper rockets. i live in Sarasota county, florida. i remember when i was a kid the space shuttles would re-enter right above my town. huge sonic boom, it broke people's windows sometimes. and always in the middle of the fucking night it seemed

Took this pic this morning. Excited for Artemis.

It's a bit lackluster I think, it's single use but costs two billion dollars per launch. Although I guess it's the best thing available for now, until Starship maybe becomes functional by the end of the decade

Wait wtf? Why am I only hearing this now?

Spain relevant

because NASA has been saying "we're sending astronauts back to the moon in 5 years!" since the 1970s
this time it looks like they're actually doing it though, in 2024

wtf is that gay esa stamp doing on the rocket. take that off, no more participation trophies to make eurangutans
feel relevent

The Kennedy Space Center is the busiest it has been in like 30+ years. They are upgrading missile row / multiple launch pads and building new ones because so many rockets from existing and new companies are going to be launched from there.

It’s really good news for the local economy and for NASA in general to have a centralized location for all of this activity.

>for the first time
should have stopped writing there

Spain and Italy have made some critical components for the European Service Module, which will keep the astronauts cozy, warm and alive on their way to the moon.

Based, I hope we get more space kino in the near future

This is missile row at the KSC, where are all the launch pads are being upgraded and modernized for all of the new customers.

Most of those launches are not NASA related. SpaceX leases 39A from NASA, but SpaceX and USSF do the bulk of the work with the FAA and FCC licensing the launches. NASA's SLS will be their first launch since the Orion test flight over a decade ago.

You will never get rid of us and you will bring European astronauts into the Moon

when SpaceX launches from KSC, NASA is deeply integrated into it. they work together then NASA mission control just hands it off to SpaceX.

and the new launch complex being built by SpaceX is being done with full coordination with NASA.

In the near future, SpaceX Starship and SLS will sit next to each other, and will work off of each other to support the Artemis+HLS programs.

And the best thing is that by the time China gets there, there will be like 16 countries that have already been there lmao

That is Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, not KSC. KSC only has pads 39A and 39B. The Space Force and technically SpaceFlorida control the rest of the pads.

For people in the East Coast, I highly recommend you go and watch the launch of SLS on the 29th of this month. There are many places at the Cape were you can watch it just by driving nearby and parking for free.

For those of you in the Midwest, keep an eye on SpaceX press releases and forums, because you can drive down to Texas and watch Starship launch. Probably within the next 2 months.

Both of these rockets are the most powerful to have ever flown by the US.

hope there will be a thread during the live, could be comfy
