I've had that happen around thrice. It's horrifying when you're in the trees and suddenly this snort and grunt comes from above. Their eyesight isn't very strong, but their smell and hearing are. Sometimes they just miss you and the way they react can be life or death for you. If they're chasing you, trees don't stop them, their antlers plough through those.
