I've only read Crime and Punishment and I don't want to see it as a film
I think the rest of his literary output would be the same way
Bondarchuk's War and Peace was amazing though, although I've read nothing from Tolstoy

Dostoyevsneed

I liked the 1958 version of the Idiot, good soundtrack too

Bresson's Pickpocket.

I will now write the best post in the thread.

There was actually a tv movie adaptation of Crime and Punishment that came out about 20 years ago (now that I check it was exactly 20 years ago). At that time I was a teenager and I had just read it and I felt that the adaptation was reasonably good. It got the whole mood of Raskolnikov being an edgy weasaly little fuck with his young man theory like he is and his deed and how the walls close in on him.

It was BBC2 with decent production values IIRC, I would honestly recommend you give that one a shot even though it was a long time ago. If you want to keep your impression of the work strictly literary, I get that though. I didn't find it hokey, stupid or "off" in any way. IIRC Ian "Palpatine" Mcdiarmid plays the head cop/magistrate guy who slowly zeros in on him as the perp.

C&p is trash as an actual novel. His best book is Karamazov. You get all the philosophy but with a good story.

Same with Rand. Her most lauded work is Atlas Shrugged, but it's a horrible book. The better book with an actual story is Fountainhead.

>I've only read Crime and Punishment and I don't want to see it as a film
Based.

Nobody wants to read books by Rand, faggot. Dostoyevsky is immortal, Rand is some welfare queen jewess.

>Bondarchuk's War and Peace was amazing
cool I'll put it on the watchlist
Thanks for the recs anons

Thanks for posting user, if you say it's worthwhile I'll give it a shot
>I didn't find it hokey, stupid or "off" in any way.
glad to hear, this is super important with adaptations I think

I've only seen The Double

This may be a stupid question, but is there an English dub? Or just subtitles?

C&P is the actual filter. Karamazov Bros is just the bait to trap in pseuds
the book was only made so he could pay for his gacha addiction

i love all the Idiots

Until i was 40 i had no idea they never shoot second episode. Movie felt fully complete

There really aren't that many Dostoevsky adaptations, at least none that are considered classics. It's weird because something like The Brothers Karamazov would be perfect for a miniseries and even an anime.

Soviet's Meek One. Better than Bresson
Soviet's Winters Night
Soviet's The Idiot
Kurosawa The Idiot
The Double
Kaurismäki Crime And Punishment

The Double is very good. It's actually one of my favorite movies. It's very underrated.

I want to see a good adaptation of don quixote. the best book of all time
