Get to travel to exotic locations all throughout the galaxy to carve up alien bugs

>get to travel to exotic locations all throughout the galaxy to carve up alien bugs
>develop incredible friendships and sexual bonds with your fellow soldiers
This is bad how, exactly?

did you watch the part of the movie where all the veterans lost their limbs?

Ummm i thought you were against trannys into your restrooms?

Yeah; defending earth from a force that would otherwise annihilate it. Starship Troopers as it is depicted in the film is an unironic utopia.

Because all the planets they go to are fucking shit and the equipment they get issued sucks

>tfw no dizzy gf

checked, her personality was so much more bubbly but intense

>Yeah; defending earth from a force that would otherwise annihilate it
Bugs were the ones defending their lands though, humanity was the one doing the invading and annihilating. Buenos Aires was an inside job

Rico is a dick for not promoting Ace after the black guy sacrificed himself.

Also Carmen got promoted many levels higher than Rico, at least Rico should be a captain while Ace is a sergeant.

Maybe the whole, horrible, gory death thing...

there's no evidence of that

>fighting rich men's wars at the likely cost of my own life
Yeah, no thanks.

Ace said he didn’t want any responsibility other than shooting things

ITS A GOOD DAY TO DIE

In Starship Troopers serving a term of service to the state is how you become a full citizen with voting rights. You don't have to do it, and you can quit any time, but if you quit you lose your one chance to have a say in the government. In the book Rico's father was a wealthy businessman but wasn't a citizen, and he tried to get Rico not to join. He had money and connections and he was upset that his son turned down his offer of a paid vacation and being set up in an easy, well paying job. And it isn't even military service necessarily. It's stated that the government will find you something to do no matter what, so even if you are incompetent and incapable of anything actively of value, they might do something like stick you in a lab for two years trying out new medications and shit on you, and if you're still alive after all that then congratulations, you're a citizen. The whole point is that citizenship is something you don't value until you've given up something to have it, that nobody should be allowed to vote unless they've sacrificed personally for the right. In the backstory of the novel there was a revolution that was led by veterans of a horrific war who decided that pansy ass selfish civilians who wouldn't participate in wars shouldn't be allowed to send other people off to fight in them, so really it's the opposite of your complaint.

we are talking about the movie you sperg

Why does Hollywood have to jew every based book? Even American Psycho was toned down and tried to make Patrick more human

Discussing the source material is valid. The difference between the portrayals of the government and its ideals is worth noting. The book seriously advocates the idea of service veterans being the only people who can participate in government and shows the protagonist rejecting the privileges of wealth and nepotism. Hollywood took this story and what it was trying to say and turned it into a parody with tits and alien guts. Discuss.

>it’s a liberals side with the fucking alien bugs against the human race episode

fucking neo-foil hat retard
next thing you tell me bug plasma can't melt hypertitanium beams?
get lost our boys and girls in black doing gods work

this is why I love how he’s introduced: you think he’s going to be some antagonistic foil for Rico throughout all of training and possibly the war, but as soon as Rico puts him in his place in the dinner line, he recognizes authority and becomes his buddy and right-hand lackey because he wanted direction all along. He’s like a fighting labrador

The bug war in the movie was the first bug war ever and it started part way through Rico's training
Who do you think the veterans were fighting against when they got crippled, blinded and dismembered?

>even if you are incompetent and incapable of anything actively of value, they might do something like stick you in a lab for two years trying out new medications and shit on you, and if you're still alive after all that then congratulations, you're a citizen.
That seems silly. If anything, the government would want those people to come out of service with a useful skill.

Informed voting is a useful skill tho.

Thats also the background of the movie. Service guarantees citizen ship

The principle is to make the voting bloc exclusive to those who have served and given part of their life for the betterment of the Federation which is seen as a highly moral characteristic, you think Trudeau would do 2 years in the military to aim for being Prime Minister?

If a reboot of ST ever got greenlit, would you want to have the Skinnies included or excluded again?

The whole "Service Guarantees Citizenship" thing is in the movie. Not the backstory about the revolution or whatever, but the rest of it is there, as I recall.

>you think Trudeau would do 2 years in the military to aim for being Prime Minister?
The elites probably join the army and just coast around in desk jobs in the Starship Troopers universe regardless. Half of british royalty "served" in the army never really being in any danger.

Honestly thats just how every guy relationship I've had goes. There is a pretty clear hierarchy to every group of male friends, you heckle & joke pretty constantly to solidify that hierarchy too. If dude is being antagonistic its usually because he is either maladjusted or is trying to establish his place in a new hierarchy. If you confront a dude like this & win that puts him below you, & he calms down. He understands he placement. If he doesn't, then he has issues that need fixing.

>Nuance? In my movie?!

Plot twist: The only reason humanity attacked the bugs was because Klaus Schwab Jr wanted humanity to eat zem.

How can you miss the entire point this hard? Do you actually think the bugs launched that asteroid into buenos aires too?
