I get it, from that perspective it's just cosmetic and if you don't agree with that it's fine. But I think children should see themselves as a link in a great chain, not as a break in the lineage. They should feel they are part of a shared story, not only within the family but community as well. I guess American culture can replace that but the kid could suffer by realizing they belong to no story except their own idiosyncratic one, they will end up being a consoomer of 23andMe and other products designed for them to play on their yearning for a lost cultural history.
