The biggest problem with these Downton Abbey movies is that they're actually far inferior to the episodes of the show. The reason is because the shows have a sense of continuation, basically each one carries on from the previous one and continues seamlessly into the next so it's like really watching people's lives like a glorified soap opera.
But the movies throw a wrench in all of that because they have to start with a lot of clunky exposition to get both newcomers and people who need a refresher course up to speed with where everyone is at, and then they have to have a solid conclusion by the end. This basically means each movie loses a lot of what made the show itself so engaging.
