Lawful means someone that follows rules. A strict set of rules. Chaotic is someone that just follows his "guts". Neutral would be "real people who are like that", as in they do follow some rules, but they also act like whatever sometimes.
So chaotic neutral is a literal mad person, lawful good would be "one of those righteous types" that aren't full of shit themselves, neutral evil would be someone that doesn't give a shit about anything but themselves, it is not for evil's sake.
