Unless you're a farmer/hunter, someone who builds houses, someone who maintains water/sewer infrastructure, or someone who is willing to kill other people/threats, your job is never necessary. The only necessary things are shelter, food, water, sleep, and self-defense. Everything else is incidental to being comfortable and allowing for human development beyond the animalistic (which, so far, is arguably not turning out super great for us).
