Shouldn't Britain, history's largest empire been able to take on Germany one v. one? Instead all they did was sit on their island and wait for the US and USSR to start the counter offensives.

UK dominated the oceans and Goymanys navy would had never compete and it didn't at all during the entire war. Their subs were an issue but that's about it. UK navies was way better. The issue comes from Germany storming all over Gayrope and getting bigger that way instead of the sea. UK army is dogshit comparatively and Churchill knew this.

Germany was destroying a large part of your naval logistics via its submarine warfare.
But when the US joined the war, the US was able to manufacture more ships than the Germans could destroy.
