The ones I met in college actually spoke English extremely well. A few were even indistinguishable from native speakers.

He meant its hard to get you to interact with us. The chinese students in our classroom were very difficult to get to join us in extracurricular activities and mostly stuck to themselves - meanwhile, everyone else, while preferring their own nationality, was proactive with the rest too.

Asian names simply don't work in the west. You can't transliterate or translate them.
Some people would literally be called Ching Chong Zhang or English Vegetable. Easier to just give yourself a western name.
There are a good percentage of Chink exchange students only abroad to get a degree. They already have management jobs lined up back home from parents or family but need a western degree to "show" that they're good for it. Why? Because the smartest Chinese know Chinese universities are shit.
But their romanized names were completely fine, even id short by western standards and didnt sound embarassing

I don’t know some of them sound better than others. I have a friend from Singapore who went by his Chinese name and I was the only one in our office besides him who pronounced it correctly lel.
Is that literally a name? Honestly, I think the discrimination part is kind of overblown. People may laugh at your name and/or your accent behind your back but discrimination is punished and shamed here.

Yeah I think Korean students generally speak the best japanese compared to other foreign students. I don't really pick people's bad japanese up unless you make annoying accent.
I've had students from other countries that speak the same level of japanese and they get along normally.

Yes, a lot of Chinese speak great English. I think they must have good English language schools in China. I've heard that the grammar is also similar between Chinese and English but I don't know any Chinese and I can't confirm that.

Chinese-Americans are usually totally normal Americans. I don't know why but we don't have the same problem as Canada or Australia where their Chinese immigrants don't assimilate and continue to consider themselves Chinese.
