When was the last time an Asian actor or actress was considered an A list Hollywood star? It seems like there aren't many

Awkwafina is the biggest star in Hollywood.

no she isn't

jackie chan's heyday

Why haven't we had a real star since Jackie or I guess jet Lee. Do people not care about Asian talent unless they are doing fight scenes?

the squid game people

Who?

Well, Israel is technically part of Asia, so...

Asian people are only like 5% of the US population.

we've shifted away from the movie star in general
it's more about the franchise now

East Asians in the West are too busy becoming doctors to attempt to become Hollywood stars
>mum, dad....I want to be an actor
>*slap*
>YOU STUDY MORE

Fuck you're right

>I can do both! Take that mom and dad!

There was never a time. Westerners don't find Asians interesting because they're not an interesting people. Asian men can't be leading men because women don't want to sleep with them and men don't want to be them. Asian women, at best, can only serve as a romantic love interest. Neither of these is good enough to be A list material.

It's almost like the media in predominently white countries reflected the ethnography of that by which it was produced while also sometimes promoting interesting facets of other peoples and cultures. Hmmmmmmm--that was evil.

White actors are international stars. Asian actors aren't. The biggest stars out of Asia are are Japanese porn actresses. Why is that?

Lucy Liu?

Jackie Chan is a Japanese porn actress!???? code now!!!

Correct. She was the last one. And she hasn't been a list in a long time but hey people like that not-Sherlock show she's in

The technology for the widespread production and dissemination of media came out of the West and therefore reflected the West. As far as Japan goes they developed their own studio system, as early as and around the same time as Hollywood I'll add, that continues to produce its own media and therefore stars.

Also, bringing pornography into it is pretty disingenuous but I'll note that it also decided the home video format wars in the 80s (i.e. the urge to watch people fuck knows no borders and vice will spread without active efforts of containment).

hollywood goes out of their way to hire only the ugliest westernized asians
they will never cast a real asian beauty

Tony Leung is big. Known for acting with his eyes.
Recommended movie is in the mood for Love.

This is also an excellent channel for East Asian film video essays.

The deranged schoolgirl in kill Bill

Jackie Chan was a novelty act. Remember Chow Yun Fat? Yeah, I thought you didn't. Asians are an uninteresting and unremarkable people to us. Aside from a few novelty cultural exports; Anime, JAV, KPop, Godzilla movies, Kung Fu movies, and Nintendo; Asians have had little to no cultural impact on us Westerners.

Isn't he the guy that fucked pretty much every single Chinese actress/model and filmed/photographed them? He had to go into hiding being Chinese media is so mobbed up that they were threatening to kill him (and "cut off his arms" if I remember) for ruining the public image of so many of their celebrities.

Only Hollywood makes movies that can be universally appreciated around the world. That is Botha and bad thing. It means our movies don't have any cultural impact on us, there's no relatibility despite it taking place in America.
Meanwhile Bollywood makes movies for India. It may not appeal to other countries but it doesn't have to, it's more relevant and impactful in that region and the people like it more.
Same with Asian films. They're meant to be viewed by someone who knows the culture.

Hollywood sold out. I wouldn't go around boasting like that's a good thing. America doesn't make movies for America anymore.

He's almost too based to live

Blacks are only like 6.5% of the California population. Around 12% of total USA. Meanwhile "asians" are 13-15% of California. You think screen time reflects that? Let's not even get into how many Jews there are.

>Remember Chow Yun Fat?
I do, he was in Dragonball Evolution

>hollywood sold out
This retard actually thinks hollywood belongs to America kek

The West is a global empire, user. Bollywood can only influence Hollywood via novelty while Western media sets the tone for the entire world. If you want more nuanced representations of culture just turn off the blockbuster capeshit (which is still representative of Western mythology) and watch smaller scale or even independent films.

I literally just fucking explained how it doesn't belong to America you mouth breathing ESL holy fucking shit LEARN TO READ

>Around 12% of total USA
Exactly. 13 % of the population is much bigger than 5%

Interesting question but I can tell the replies are gonna be bait or pol shit

>Western media sets the tone for the entire world.
No we don't. Hollywood purposely edits out anything that would clash with foreign culture like lgbt representation. The west doesn't export culture, hell, it does the opposite, only importing foreign cultures to make money. The west has no culture, it's strictly all money and business.
