I think his existence was only really investigated by the Jedi well into the time of Labyrinth of Evil. His death not only didn't help the Jedi, but offset and delayed their search of the sith.

I really doubt it, Crucible was the perfect prologue to a possible sequel trilogy. Lucas would've need another 10 years to come out with the plot. I really think he sold Star Wars because he knew it was a sinking ship and wanted to fuck over kk, hidalgo, chee, filioni and the rest of LF, which were probably all woke anyways.
