I'm an Iranian man. I'll explain it, it's very complicated.

Basically, they are residual Caucasus/Iranian mutts who got forcefully Turkified by Seljuks and adopted the language. For most of history, they were called Shirvanis (their land was called Shirvan) but then the Russians captured the land in the 1800s when they beat Iran, and in 1918 their "country" was invented by Russians, and they stole the name "Azerbaijan" from the region of Northwest Iran and in 1991, they finally became independent and ever since then, they adopted the retarded Turanist ideology of Anatolians and have been larping since. For most of history, either part of Iran proper or a territory of Iran, but for 200 years, they were subjects of Russians. Also, they're not the same people as Iranian Azeris, but they speak the same language (a highly Persianized Turkish dialect). The former soviet republic of Azerbaijan people are a halfway point between Iran and Dagestan. Basically a Sovietized frankenstein meme country between Turkic parts of Iran/Caucasus and the Soviet Union

Culture: mix of Caucasus and Iran, nothing unique, just borrowed
