Portugal is poorer than Spain, but it looks wealthier and lacks these povertyblocks in every city. How comes?

Their economy is booming, unlike Spain who has a collapsed economy
> looks wealthier
well not really
>lacks these povertyblocks
>it looks wealthier and lacks these povertyblocks
but generally I can agree that Portugal looks surprisingly good for its low GDP per capita/average income level. I guess they must have been really wealthy in the 1980s-2000s period when most of their infrastructure was built
im kinda surprised why Portugal isn't more popular as a tourist/expat destination, sounds like a really cozy place, cheaper and nicer than many overhyped ones
Lot of drug dealer and street crime for what ive understood. Vagrant travel youtuber got sucker punched and had his things stolen in there
This is something I can't understand how it works in first world. Here it's pretty easy - if a neighborhood looks bad, it's also unsafe, crime ridden etc. Meanwhile in the west everything is perfectly renovated, even neighborhoods with unemployment 90% and lots of crime so you can't really distinguish between safe and unsafe places because they all look equally good.
>lacks these povertyblocks in every city.
those blocks could easily cost million euros, how is that poverty
Its rather easy, look for these sings.
>area has lot of minorities, alcoholics/drug addicts
All the Portuguese I've met were drug dealers lol
>area has lot of minorities, alcoholics/drug addicts
but you don't see it on the spot, only if you already enter the neighborhood (when it can be already too late for you)
here you simply don't go to ugly hoods, simple as that
Funny. All the Portuguese who come work a part-time job here only do it for the drugs
Bad neighborhoods in the West will also feature high-rise commieblocks, they're easy to recognize. France is chock-full of them, Germany will have them in poorer cities, Spain is basically nothing but Francoblocks.
UK, Belgium and Netherlands may be the sole exceptions, as they really only have rowhouses, barely commieblocks.
This can be the most dangerous hood in all of Austria but it looks so similar to middle class neighborhoods here so I wouldn't be initially afraid of walking there but then I could get punched and robbed by some youngsters.
The west isn't a place for a simple man who thinks with obvious patterns "nice - go, ugly - don't go".
>Spain is basically nothing but Francoblocks.
do you mean all of Spain is no-go zone?
No. Spain is actually fairly safe in comparison to France and the UK. But its bad neighborhoods will be very easy to recognize.
>middle class neighborhoods here
Maybe in your shithole
Well, Spain apparently isn't a typical westoid country so still the pattern "ugly/not maintained = bad" works there. It doesn't in Germany or the Netherlands or Finland because everything looks equally good there
cope, such are neighborhoods where just normal people live, including lawyers, doctors etc. In Warsaw 50 sqm apartment in an average commie hood costs 150k eur nowadays.
Probably historic reasons? Spain went into a civil war while Portugal stood under an isolationalist Fascist who just sat there and prudently kept his economy stagnant and finances stable. So I guess Portugal would be better off than Spain
There are no dangerous hoods in Austria. You can go to the most dangerous minority filled hood in Vienna and stumble around drunk and nothing will happen to you.
Spain looks wealyhier than Germany, to be honest.
