bump

It just ripped of the live action movie lol

its based on a manga, you spaz

>muh sports story about determination
You might as well watch Rocky or something.
Just because your first exposure to that trite cliché was some ugly-ass Yuasa anime, that doesn't make it innovative.

Woah really ill just watch that instead.

>muh sports story about determination

Ping pong is trash. Watch something that doesn't insist upon itself instead, like Millennium Actress or something.

>sports story about determination
Literally wrong, there is a character whose sole purpose is to show that it doesn't matter how hard you work.

>insist upon itself

It's literally Rocky, user. Just with Ping Pong instead of Boxing, but with the same undue pathos and overdramatization.
And it has as little to do with the sport itself as Rocky did. If you want to watch sport,s watch sports. They are in their nature entertainment and they have their own natural dramatic arc. You don't need to resort to some cheap artificial story.
But you're not watching for the action, are you, user? You're watching for "muh personal" drama! Yet, if you've seen one of those stories, you've seen them all. You always get those braindead autistic protagonists who only live for their sport and their careers. And it always is an arc of overcoming their inhibitions for the sake of a big final fight. Which they lose, if you want to be "subversive" (which totally hasn't been done in 50% of those films and series, right?).

Rocky is a fantastic film and an all time classic.

Yes

yo why you gotta blow my high?

>there is a character whose sole purpose is to show that it doesn't matter how hard you work.
Who is Apollo Creed?

I swear, you Yuasa fanboys are the worst. You always think you know your shit when it's obvious that you have not ever seen anything other than Yuasa's bullshit. You are worse than MCU fanboys. Worse than Star Wars manbabies. Worse than Nolan enthusiasts. Worse even than the Snyder cult.

Rocky is a pretty well made film, yes, but it's not a great story.
You can even argue that Ping Pong is well made, despite its Flash animation and overuse of rotoscoping.

Rocky is universally beloved by critics, filmmakers and fans. You are an autistic incel on a tranime nazi forum.

>Rocky is universally beloved by critics, filmmakers and fans.
Everything is beloved by its fans.
And, yes, of course a well-made film is enjoyed by critics and filmmakers for its technical achievements. Doesn't mean its telling a great story.
Just look at fucking Citizen Kane: It tells the worst story you can possibly tell, one of some rich American guy living the American dream and then dying a pityful death. That's the Great Getsby formula. American literature of the early 20th century is full of variations on that same boring meta-commentary on the American way of life and its ideals. It's pseudo-intellectual navel gazing turned personal story, but what all of them have in common is that they lack any further themes or motifs, and ultimately fail at telling an engaging story. Citizen Kane's whole storytelling relies on you buying into the red hering that is "Rosebud".
But it's loved by critics and mandatory watching in film schools! Why? Because it's technically excellent. That's it.

that isn't what the show is about at all
yes it's great
i don't watch anime anymore but i have ping pong, kaiji, f/z saved for posterity on 3 different hdds for the collapse

>It's literally Rocky, user. Just with Ping Pong instead of Boxing
This is probably the most stupid take ive ever seen here
Ping pong is not a story about how determination perseveres as rocky is, its a story about what motivates people to do things and about the terror of both failire and victory
Its an amazing thesis on mans strive for something
Im really sorry youre a reductionist, jaded retard

That is some fucked up かな

>Ping pong is not a story about how determination perseveres as rocky is
You do realize that Rocky loses the fight he trains for the whole time, right? Rocky's determination does not persevere.
>its a story about what motivates people to do things and about the terror of both failire and victory
Alexa! What is "Rocky" about?
>In perhaps the most inspirational scene from whole Rocky series, Rocky highlighted the most powerful lesson of all – persistence. The ability to just keep moving always. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows.
Sounds familiar, Yuasafag?
