Anyone else think they had literally no idea how to end the show? Like not a clue, and they weren't expecting to wrap it up then? It's like the show just stopped with no real particular point. Ruth dies in the most contrived way completely randomly just because it's the finale and I guess characters die in series finales, and then the ending is like a regular episode one.

I think the opposite desu. I think they had a perfect ending, but then decided subverting was suddenly cool and they chose to make some garbage ending because it would 'suprise' and 'shock' us, rather than just have the logical ending of Wendy getting fucking clipped when Marty could no longer protect her, and then possibly having him die as well.

I'm somewhere between these viewpoints, I thought every season was just a bit worse than the one before it but by the end, a few things were clear: they had no idea what to do with Ruth's character but absolutely couldn't risk losing her before the finale.
And they sidelined Marty hard as fuck in order to push Wendy, who teetered the show way past the point of unbelievability; in the last season Marty was absolutely nothing more than a supporting character.
