Despite being one of Africa's richest economies the country has very little electricity.
40% of the population don't have access to electricity and the country has one of the highest murder rates in Africa standing at 19.6.
According to the cia in 2022 the life expectancy of botswana was 65 years of age.
To put it in perspective, russia, Zimbabwe, uganda, Iraq, Tanzania and Bolivia are safer than botswana.
And you are more likely to have electricity in indonesia, ghana, Kenya, the philiphines, egypt and India.
And the life expectancy puts it on par with south africa, liberia, rwanda, Djibouti, Haiti, zambia and marutania. And lower than india, laos, honduras, tajikistan, papua new guinea, Cambodia mexico,Bangladesh and Iraq.
Also according to the cia, the literacy rate of botswana is 88.9%
This is lower than columbia Burma, brazil, Bolivia Ecuador and the gaza strip
Even ivory coast has a higher literacy rate, a country that was at war in 2011 and rapidly improved their literacy rates. They even have a slightly higher electricity rate than botswana despite being poorer (64%)
It also has an extremely high unemployment rate of 24%.
The inequality is also one of the highest in the world.
To put it in perspective, Botswana has a gdp of (16.09 billion dollars,2017 data).
$9 billion out of the $16.09 billion economy of botswana is in garbone, the capital city. The city only has around 270 thousand people, in a country of 2.3 million people.
If you remove Botswana's capital city, the gdp per capita of the country falls to around 3600 dollars. Putting it on par with estwatini.
I thought botswana was a success story wtf.
