My son :)

what a khagan

VGH
i mean granted, he kind of "forced" himself into my family tree, but i suppose you still have to respect your elders

t. east slav

my ancestors :)

prior to soviet influence it was common for kazakhs to be proud of genghis khan. kazakh oral traditions always had historical figures from the mongol empire and the golden horde, but once soviets came to power they made us identify with scythians... i wish we had more solidarity with mongolbros as we do with turkbros

Not a fan of his descendants

Herrani...

have there been any efforts on kazakh society as a whole to rid yourself of this soviet concept and to reconnect with your mongol ancestors again?

My sons :)

AlsoWhat do people think about Bayan Ulgii kazakhs in Kazakhstan?

g-grandpa...?!

on governmental level? no. people here have this internal understanding that there is a connection, but they take different paths to "reconnect" with mongols. some actually try to learn history and the formation of kazakhs and come appretiate the turco-mongolic culture. others become unhinged as they try to appropriate genghis khan as a kazakh. the good thing is that there are efforts from our historians to bring back the golden horde identity, which is going quite well

they're seen as the legit kazakhs and many are thankful that mongolia even hosts them in the first place. negativity also exists but mostly due to steriotypes that they're unintellegent migrants that get special treatment from the government

That's cool. Also pic rel lmao

interesting, thanks for sharing
it has only been a mere 3 decades since kazakhstan's independence, and i guess it will take a bit of time for you as a society to figure it back out after centuries of some foreign power dictating how you are supposed to feel about it
