Americans don't really have stories of their own, since they all moved to their current lands quite late, when stories of the weird and magical perhaps wouldn't be taken quite as seriously.
Most of those cryptid stories are fairly recent and are meant as entertainment, not as a warning or any sort of passing of knowledge.
