Why can't sci-fi do better than 2001? That was 54 years ago. Why can't anybody do better?

>I've only seen star wars and 2001: the post

Most movies in general are trash made for lowest common denominator retards. It's been this way since before the 80's

Honestly, because digital sucks and Super Panavision 70 is superior.

just watch Solaris, jfc frfr

Why did people seemingly give up on manned space exploration?

All we’ve been doing since the 70’s is going to the space station. Which is still pretty cool, but in the 60’s people seemed to think we would be exploring Jupiter by now.

Because rocket technology hasn't budged far enough since all the Nazis retired from NASA.

That set look a million times better than today´s blockbuster sets

You gotta have a special kind of soul to make good films. Most directors nowadays are soulless, especially critically acclaimed ones like Nolan and Villeneuve. Also, there's too much studio meddling.

what is 'soul'? is it just having your own unique view on something? who're some directors with 'soul'?

Star Wars killed adult sci-fi.

Because it's an actual set. Now they just make the nigger smack they lips in front of a green screen

Alien did it well. Underwater did it well too, until the monster showed up.

that movie is more boring than 2001

>what is 'soul'?
The ability to appreciate certain ineffable essences and sensations felt during the experience of life and express them intuitively in a way that is nuanced and pleasing.
>who're some directors with 'soul'?
David Lynch, Tarkovski, Kubrick, etc.

Because the imagination is gone and all they want to do now is sell more shit to braindead consoomers. The 60s and 70s were the peak time for quality sci-fi like 2001, THX-1138, Andromeda Strain, Logan's Run, The Prisoner etc etc

Currently, there's no indication that we'll ever develop any technology which might allow us to explore the galaxy in a meaningful way (astronomy does not count as exploration). FTL travel appears to be impossible, and outside of the, Mars and Europa, the other nearby bodies we might colonize are either untenable furnaces (Venus, Jupiter) or dry, airless, rocky wastes (the Moon). We appear to be stuck in this stupid solar system in bodies that live for a few decades on the outside and which are required to spend a third of their time asleep. This video game is SHIT and it implicates its designer (if one even exists) as a SHIT himself.

How to kill the Demiurge and ascend to Pleroma?

You should watch “Gattaca”

This is somewhat pertinent to your question:

Thank.

What's stopping me from projecting those feelings on a piece of innocuous trash. How can you tell if a movie has 'soul', or you are bringing that 'soul' to the table; the experience would be the same.

>appeal to authority/populism

Not really a satisfying answer, especially given the existence of 'spirit readers' and marketing. It's just to easy to trick people en masse into having specific reactions, and the distinction between the artist and the viewer is already so muddled. It's not that your concept is wrong, it's that it is inherently trapped in speculation... which kind of defeats it's usefulness in any type of discussion.
