Why isn't south park "cool" anymore?

I remember back when a new episode came out everyone talked about it and thought it was really funny/clever. What changed?

It became non-funny and non-clever

They now tow the popular safe opinion. They will never criticize Islam againt or Feminism or liberal policies.

Whats wrong with those things?

Not funny and panders to people who don't watch it

Yeah right.

You will never be a woman

while they don't fully tow the line, they stay way further within the safe zone. they don't rip on both sides of an issue as equally anymore

They started taking their role in the cultural zeitgeist seriously, which meant they couldn't promote "hateful" opinions and had to constantly preach tolerance and diversity. This ironically is what killed their ability to influence the zeitgeist

>panders to people who don't watch it
this is the worst part about modern entertainment in general

Because reality got stranger and any remaining parodies are now stillbirths.

>What changed?
you left high school

It tries too hard. They should go back to the way it was in both story telling and look.

The entire debacle over Trump's election. They genuinely believed Hillary was going to win. That's when South Park became culturally irrelevant.

am I the only boomer who has always hated this crap?
ugly ass animation
i even watched the "classic" episodes like the WoW one and Scott Tenorman. WoW was ok but Scott is just fucking garbage

South Park was only culturally relevant when it was the first cartoon to show people swearing and shitting and fucking and dying all over the place. The serialization was the absolute final nail in the coffin.

Matt/Trey became globohomos

>A plot is just a continuation of the season-long story line that's usually garbage
>B plot is whatever is popular in the news that week
it makes the show hard to follow if you're not always watching with the A plot and instantly dated with the B plot. Sadly, they'll never go back to each episode being its own self-contained story because it's too difficult for them to come up with stuff

>Matt/Trey became globohomos
Basically this. They went from center-right libertarians who just wanted to be left alone and made fun of people who tried to force their values on others to shitlibs who push every globohomo talking point

They started taking themselves seriously. Every episode is now trying hard to shove their opinion down your throat like an accepted fact instead of just pointing out the stupidity of existing opinions and talking points

if they made the Butt Out episode now they would take the side of the anti-smokers and portray the smokers as selfish lunatics killing other people with secondhand smoke

It's a product of its time. A once edgy show that made fun of all sides now is a sanitized corporate blob that meshes into the TV networks just like The Simpsons and Family Guy. Same way The Matrix was once a edgy and cool thing is now a fucking boring sanitized blob that we all roll our eyes at.
